Scientists have found two large leaks in Earth's magnetosphere, the region around our planet that shields us from severe solar storms.

The leaks are defying many of scientists' previous ideas on how the interaction between Earth's magnetosphere and solar wind occurs: The leaks are in an unexpected location, let in solar particles in faster than expected and the whole interaction works in a manner that is completely the opposite of what scientists had thought.

'NGC 1275 is one of the closest giant elliptical galaxies and lies at the centre of the Perseus Cluster of galaxies. It is an active galaxy, hosting a supermassive black hole at its core, which blows bubbles of radio-wave emitting material into the surrounding cluster gas. Its most spectacular feature is the lacy filigree of gaseous filaments reaching out beyond the galaxy into the multi-million degree X-ray emitting gas that fills the cluster.

These filaments are the only visible-light manifestation of the intricate relationship between the central black hole and the surrounding cluster gas. They provide important clues about how giant black holes affect their surrounding environment.

A team of astronomers using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys have for the first time resolved individual threads of gas which make up the filaments. The amount of gas contained in a typical thread is around one million times the mass of our own Sun. They are only 200 light-years wide, are often surprisingly straight, and extend for up to 20 000 light-years. The filaments are formed when cold gas from the galaxy's core is dragged out in the wake of rising bubbles blown by the black hole.

It has been a challenge for astronomers to understand how the delicate structures withstood the hostile high-energy environment of the galaxy cluster for more than 100 million years. They should have heated up, dispersed, and evaporated over a very short period of time, or collapsed under their own gravity to form stars. Even more puzzling is the fact that they haven't been ripped apart by the strong tidal pull of gravity in the cluster's core.

A new study led by Andy Fabian from the University of Cambridge, UK, published in Nature on 21 August 2008 proposes that the magnetic fields hold the charged gas in place and resist forces that would distort the filaments. This skeletal structure has been able to contain and suspend these peculiarly long threads for over 100 million years. "We can see that the magnetic fields are crucial for these complex filaments - both for their survival and for their integrity", said Fabian.

The new Hubble data also allowed the strength of the magnetic fields in the filaments to be determined from their size. Thinner filaments are more fragile, requiring stronger magnetic fields for support. However, the finer the filaments, the more difficult they are to observe.

The filamentary system in NGC 1275 provides the most striking example of the workings of extragalactic magnetic fields so far and is a spectacular by-product of the complex interaction between the cluster gas and the supermassive black hole at the galaxy's heart. Similar networks of filaments are found around many other, even more remote, central cluster galaxies. They cannot be observed in anything like the detail of NGC 1275, so the team will apply the understanding gained here to interpret observations of these more distant galaxies.'

Jan 12th, 2010 Local time 16:53:09 (21:53:09 UTC) M7.0 Earthquake hit Haiti cost over 50,000 lives and countless injuries. This video recorded the Earth's magnetosphere activities on that day. (Thanks for NICT/SWS website provided the data.) As you can see, the whole day had several times of magnetic field twists and blasts. Notice that the top right graph which shows the magnetic field pressure of the Earth, it raised to red at [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr2T2Wad2nM&feature=related#"]20:00[/ame]UT, started topping to pale at [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr2T2Wad2nM&feature=related#"]21:35[/ame]UT, 21:51:43UT appeared a fluctuation or shockwave of magnetic field pressure (Notice on its top left arc), then Haiti Earthquake happened right after, magnetic blast continued, so as after shocks! Haiti located on the fault line between North American plate and Caribbean plate, also very near Atlantic rift(Earths third magnetic region besides two poles according to zetatalk), as the magnetic blast hit Earth, that might had a strong grip on Atlantic rift
which was likely one of the main reasons that caused the Earthquake. NICT data also indicates that Sept 29th, 2009 M8.3 quake hit Samoa Island while Earth magnetosphere twisted then south pole disappeared. Data also showing that M5+ quakes are happening almost everyday spread several places recently; so as the Earth magnetosphere twistings and blasts are happening everyday lately. Thus, this doesn't look like just a coincident. NICT also has the data on solar wind that you can check it out, which indicates nothing out of ordinary on Jan 12th, 2010. So what caused such a powerful, scale breaking magnetic blast to our mother Earth? That is something for you to figure it out. But its on its way toward us, climaxes are still to come. You have been told that it was only M7.0, well, if several M9+ hit Earth, wouldn't that scare the Jesus out of people? So, my advise is not to wait for the rapture, but well prepare yourself. The Earth's Magnetic Fields May Cause Die-Off
Could the Earth's magnetic fields be causing the recent die-off of thousands of birds and fish? Scientists believe so, along with environmental imbalances.
The sudden death of thousands of blackbirds in Arkansas over the 2010-2011 New Year's holiday last weekend was newsworthy enough. Within a couple of days, hundreds of stories from all around the globe recounted similar phenomena. Not only have blackbirds been "falling out of the sky," but many species of birds,as well as reported cases of bat deaths in Arizona. In addition, there are numerous reports being gathered from around the world about massive fish die-off, and die-off of many different sea animals. What could be causing these deaths? Some researchers believe that changes in the Earth's magnetic fields are to blame.
The Earth's Magnetic Fields: What They Are and How Birds Use Them to Migrate
The Earth's magnetic field is similar to that of a bar magnet, with north and south poles.The magnetic field causes a bubble around the Earth which protects it from solar winds, asteroids, and other objects in space. Scientists believe the magnetic poles are due to electric currents that come from the Earth's core.The circulating electric current creates a dynamo effect, which is caused, in part, by the rotation of the Earth's axis. A dynamo effect is similar to what happens with an electric generator. When the magnetic field interacts with particles from solar winds, it creates what is known as the aurora borealis near the poles.
Scientists at Goethe-Universitat in Frankfurt, Germany, have discovered that a bird can see the Earth's magnetic fields through photoreceptor cells in the bird's right eye. Birds use this navigational tool to migrate north and south during the autumn and spring. Before this discovery, it was believed that birds could sense the magnetic field either through their eyes or beaks. These photoreceptor cells create shades of light, which tell the birds if they are on or off course during migration.
Could the Earth's Magnetic Fields Be Causing the Die-Off of Thousands of Birds?
The Goethe-Universitat study revealed that if birds could not see the magnetic field when migrating, they lost their "bearings" and could hurt themselves or even die. NASA reported in 2008 that there was a "massive breach" in the Earth's magnetic field, detected by THEMIS spacecraft. Solar wind can flow through this breach, causing enormous geomagnetic storms. It is very possible that such a geomagnetic storm is responsible for the current deaths of thousands of birds across the planet.
Magnetic storms can cause many different phenomena to occur. Not only do birds, such as the reported blackbirds, pelicans, penguins and eagles, lose their bearings and fall dead from exhaustion and hunger, but radio transmissions can be lost, there can be radiation from too much solar power, and high-energy charged particles can bombard the Earth due to the breach in the magnetic "shield" wrapping the planet.. Magnetic storms can also trigger changes in the Earth's crust, which may lead to increases in landslides, mudslides, earthquakes, and volcano eruptions.
What About the Fish Kills? Are the Fish and Bird Die-Offs Related?
It may be possible that the fish and bird die-offs are unrelated. Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spokesman Keith Stephens believes that in the drum fish case, it could just be a disease, "since it only affected one species." He says fishkills are not unusual.
However, fishkills are being reported all across the world. Panama reports at least 100 tons of several species of fish found dead all along its coast. Officials there suspect an environmental imbalance, possibly due to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Italy claims a "massacre" of fish, clams, and crabs over Christmas, but blame nearby industries. Similar fishkills are being reported in other cities.
According to Science Daily.com, sea creatures such as sharks, crabs, salmon, and sea turtles not only use magnetic fields to navigate, but also to detect their prey. So it is entirely possible that some of the recent deaths of not only fish, but sea animals like starfish and dolphins are due to changes in the Earth's magnetic fields.

เมื่อกี้เซฟภาพของลุงโลธ่าร์แล้วใช้โฟโต้ช่อปในการเล่นและลดแสงเป็นแบบขาวดำก็พบว่ามันเป็นอย่างที่หลายๆท่านเห็นจริงๆ มันมีปีก (ดวงจันทร์บริวารสองโหล) ดูเหมือนกลุ่ม dust clouds (ความเห็นส่วนตัวเช่นเคยครับ)
