ผิว์ว่าเป็นของหลวงปู่นาคแท้แล้ว พิมพ์เช่นนี้หามีไม่ ทั้งเนื้อหาก็บ่งชัดว่าหาใช่เนื้อแท้เดียวกัน แลยังไม่เคยได้ยินผู้ใดกล่าวอ้างว่าพระของขวัวตานาคท่าน จะมีการสอดไส้ใส่ตระกรุดไว้ฉะนี้...

ฤา..ถ้าจะว่าเป็นของหลวงปู่หิน ก็ยิ่งหาใช่มั๊ย ดูช่างห่างไกลโข

การดังนี้..ข้าพเจ้าจึงเห็นว่า น่าจะเป็นพระใหม่ ขอบคมเปี๊ยบ เสมือนคมดาบเสมา แลน่าจะสร้างอยู่ไม่นานนี้แล หลังผู้เสมาก่อเกิดตัวตน.เป็นอมตนิยาย..เยอะ..(2482 - 2485 )

นวนิยายเรื่อง "ขุนศึก" เป็นบทประพันธ์อมตะชิ้นสุดท้ายของ "ไม้ เมืองเดิม" หรือ ก้าน พึ่งบุญ ณ อยุธยา เขาใช้เวลาสองปีเศษ สร้างสรรค์อมตวรรณกรรมชิ้นนี้ ในขณะที่ร่างกายป่วยไข้อย่างหนัก เป็นอัมพาตและมือสั่นจนเขียนหนังสือไม่ได้ ต้องเอาด้ายดิบพันนิ้วมือทุกนิ้วให้แน่นเสียก่อนเขียนหนังสือ ตอนหลังอาการหนักนั่งเขียนเองไม่ไหว มีเพื่อนฝูงที่รักใคร่สมัครมาเขียนให้ โดยเจ้าตัวนอนบอกเนื้อความให้จด บางครั้งเพื่อนติดธุระต้องให้ภรรยาเป็นผู้จดคำบอก ก้านมุ่งมั่นจะเขียนเรื่องขุนศึกให้จบก่อนเขาลาจากไปสู่ปรโลก โดยกล่าวว่า "ขุนศึกเป็นบทประพันธ์ที่กันรักมาก"
แต่ก้านก็ไม่สามารถทำได้ดังใจหวัง เขาสิ้นชีวิตก่อนเขียนนวนิยายเรื่องนี้จบเรื่อง โดยจบชีวิตในวันที่ 4 มีนาคม 2484 ด้วยวัยเพียง 37 ปี ตอนสุดท้ายของนวนิยายเรื่องขุนศึกที่ "ไม้ เมืองเดิม" เขียน ลงตีพิมพ์เมื่อวันที่ 24 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2485

ต่อมาทางสำนักพิมพ์ได้เกลี้ยกล่อมขอให้ กิ่ง พึ่งบุญ ณ อยุธยา น้องชายของ "ไม้ เมืองเดิม"และเป็นนักเขียนนิยายอิงประวัติศาสตร์ นามปากกา "สุมทุม บุญเกื้อ" แต่งเรื่อง ขุนศึก ต่อให้จบสมบูรณ์ กิ่งใช้เวลา 4 เดือน เขียนตอนจบของ ขุนศึก ผลงานของ "สุมทุม บุญเกื้อ"จะอยู่ตอนท้ายเล่มที่ 13 และเล่มที่ 14 ทั้งเล่ม

ก้าน พึ่งบุญ ณ อยุธยา นามปากกา ไม้ เมืองเดิม หรือ กฤษณะ พึ่งบุญ ผลงานที่มีชื่อเสียงล้วนเป็นอมตแห่งวรรณกรรม ได้แก่ แผลเก่า, บางระจัน, แสนแสบ, ขุนศึก เป็นต้น

อย่างนี้นี่เองที่เขาเรียกว่าองค์ครู นี่ถ้าเป็นพี่ตุ้ยก็ไม่ต้องคอยระวัง ตอนแรกก็จะเอาอีกองค์แต่พี่เขาแนะนำว่าให้เก็บองค์นี้ก่อนจะหมดวัดแล้ว อย่างรุ่น 108 ปียังมีอีกมากมาเมื่อไรก็ได้ ด้วยความไร้เดียงสาก็พาซื่อ ดังนี้ข้าน้อยต้องขึ้นหิ้งไว้เป็นครูสอนใจ

ดูละคร สอนใจ..ไม่น่าเชื่อให้ข้อคิดดีๆได้เยอะถึงเพียงนี้...

 

ผมอาจเรียกได้ว่าเป็นนักอ่านคนหนึ่ง

หนึ่งในผู้ประพันธ์ที่ผมรักและเคารพมากที่สุด..เชื่อในจิตวิญญาณแห่งการเป็นนักเขียนที่แท้จริง ก็คือ ไม้ เมืองเดิม นี่แล

มาจนบัดนี้นึกแปลกใจมากว่า..หนังที่นำมาสร้างใยจึงเปลี่ยนบทอมตวรรณกรรมนี้ไปเสียหมด แถบจะหมดซึ่งเค้าโครงเดิม

ผู้ถือลิขสิทธิ์เขายอมเหรอ..ใยไม่เหลือซึ่งคุณค่าแห่งอมตนิยายเรื่องนี้ไว้

หากท่านใดได้เคยอ่านหนังสือ จะเห็นว่าเนื้อเรื่องผิดไปเสียหมด แต่งเติมเสริมใหม่ซะส่วนมาก

อรรถรสช่างแตกต่าง..ตัวนิยายที่ท่านผู้ประพันธ์อุตส่าห์บรรจงสรรสร้างลักษณะนิสัยใจคอจำเพาะบุคคล ถูกเปลี่ยนแปลงเสียสิ้น

ผมจึงนึกดูถูก..ผู้แปลงจากบทประพันธ์อันทรงคุณค่า ให้กลายเป็นลักษณะแห่งละครน้ำเน่าอันชิงรักหักสวาทนี้ยิ่ง..

เดี๋ยวจะลงภาพเหรียญ แบบสภาพทั่วๆไป ให้เพื่อนสมาชิกเราได้เห็นหลายๆแบบ หลายๆสภาพ เดี๋ยวจะติดไปที่เหรียญสวยๆซะอย่างเดียว ซึ่งจริงๆเหรียญที่สวยๆนั้นหาได้ยากมากครับ อาจจะมีสักไม่ถึง 3 -5 % ของพระที่สร้างเพียง 1,000 องค์
