The forecast path shown above is the Bureau's best estimate of the cyclone's future movement and intensity. There is always some uncertainty associated with tropical cyclone forecasting and the grey zone indicates the range of likely tracks of the cyclone centre.
Due to the uncertainty in the future movement, the indicated winds will almost certainly extend to regions outside the rings on this map. The extent of the warning and watch zones reflects this.
This product is designed for land-based communities; mariners should read the coastal waters and high seas warnings.

Remarks:
YASI CONTINUES TO WEAKEN, BUT IS PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN AND DANGEROUS WIND GUSTS
ABOUT THE TROPICAL COAST AND ACROSS THE TROPICAL INTERIOR.

The DESTRUCTIVE CORE of Yasi, with gusts in excess of 125 km/h, will weaken as it continues to move in a west-southwesterly direction. Overnight TC Yasi will be near the Northern Territory border west of Mt Isa as a tropical depression.

DAMAGING WINDS, with gusts above 90 km/h, are occurring along the coast between Cardwell and Ayr and also through much of the tropical interior. These winds are forecast to extend to the Northern Territory border including Longreach and Mount Isa, while easing about coastal parts during the afternoon.

TIDE levels are now falling and are not expected to pose any further threat to coastal areas between Port Douglas and Ayr. However, large waves will continue for the next few hours between Port Douglas and Ayr.

HEAVY RAINS will continue about the coast and will result in a continuation of localised and river flooding.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND HEAVY RAINS are also forecast to move with the cyclone
and cause localised flooding and possible river flooding across the interior


People in the path of the dangerous cyclone should stay calm and remain in a secure shelter while the destructive winds continue.
- Do not venture outside if you find yourself in the eye of the cyclone; destructive winds from a different direction could resume at any time.

The communities, on the eastern edge of the wheatbelt, around 300 kilometres east of Perth, had little warning that the storm was about to hit. Torrential rains, hail and gale force winds caused some localised flooding and blew over around six kilometres of power lines. Similar storms across the wheatbelt caused extensive damage across the central wheatbelt last weekend, with the communities at Northam and York hardest hit. Beacon farmer Stuart Faulkner says he had the equivalent of a full year's rainfall, around 100 millimetres, in half an hour. "There was a lot of flooding damage to paddocks; there's no organic material left on the surface, all the stubble and that's been washed away," he said. "All our paddocks were just like a lake until evening, until it got dark and we couldn't see any further."

The coastal community about 50km south of Tully is completely devastated and looks more like a junkyard. The marina is completely destroyed, million-dollar boats have been ripped apart, homes have had roofs torn off, buildings are just shells, power lines are down everywhere and the town is barely recognizable. The Courier-Mail was the first media crew able to reach the town with access limited into the destroyed community. RSL President Ray Andrews described the cyclone hitting "like a freight train coming for you". "This place is wiped out," he said. "Trees and the forest are just shredded, this was a mega storm.
"There's a lot of elderly people here who are going to need help here".

At Port Hinchinbrook Estate marina more than 40 million-dollar boats have been ripped up from the marina and now rest on land metres away. The carnage is incomprehensible as many locals return to see the devastation today. A toilet block on the beachside was ripped to shreds and businesses and homes have been smashed apart. Cardwell resident Chris Stoter said he received a phone call this morning from a friend who told him there were boat masts sticking out of the water in the marina. “I helped tie some of the boats the day before, and because the marina came up so high all the pontoons floated off,” he said. “A lot of houses in the marina have been inundated. The whole marina is sunk, every boat in the marina is on the bottom or on the bank. “Several friends told me there was also sand up on the houses along the beachfront with a lot of water damage over the front street of the marina. “There’s 800ml of water going down the front street of the marina right now. My house is the next street over and is a bit raised, but I don’t know how it has fared yet.” “We had to hang on to the door. Everything was just moving around and bang! The main roof from upstairs went and blew off. “We didn’t hear the roof go, the wind was so noisy that we couldn’t hear anything.” Mr Stoter, 50, is yet to make it to his Griffin Court home in Cardwell, closer to the ocean. He and his two British neighbours evacuated to his brother-in-law’s home on Kennedy Creek Road just outside of Cardwell after the town was ordered to evacuate yesterday. Mr Stoter said seven adults were huddled in the bathroom on the bottom of the two-storey home and only realised the roof was gone when water started dripping on them.

He said the water eventually caused the ceiling of the bathroom to cave in, so they moved into a small room next door, where they lay soaking wet on wet mattresses until about 4am today. “I was thinking ‘When is this bloody going to end? Christ, this has to end soon,’” he said. “It just blew and blew. I don’t know how to explain it - Just the roar of the wind. “It would come in gusts but it didn’t stop then, it just kept going.” Mr Stotes said sugar cane was flattened, there were no leaves left on any trees and there was roofing iron wrapped around a tree. Some timber from the house was blown off and went through the indicator of a car like a spear, while another van had its windscreen smashed. Mr Stotes said his boat and ute were parked in a shed beside the house, but while the shed was destroyed, the ute had nothing but a small scuff mark. “It was unbelievable,” he said. “You have no idea what the destruction has caused.” There are reports circulating around Cardwell that pontoons and boats at the marina have sunk or floated over the street in the tidal surge.

The tornado, which hit Jolo town in Sulu province Thursday night, triggered flash flood and submerged at least six villages eight-feet deep underwater, Jolo Mayor Hussin Amin said. Three bodies of victims were recovered Thursday night while two others were recovered today. The Philippine Marines and U.S. servicemen are already assisting the rescue and evacuation of the residents who were forced to evacuate to higher grounds. Amin said rains triggered by lower pressure area have battered Sulu province for almost a week.

The State Emergency Service (SES) has rescued 49 people from raging floodwaters and more than 1,600 people have called for help. Crews helped a woman and her two young children when their car became trapped in a flash flood at Mildura. Firefighters have rescued a girl who was clinging to a tree branch after being swept away at Ashwood, in Melbourne's east. And At Mulgrave, the fire brigade was called to assist a disabled man in a wheelchair who got stuck in water up to his hips. Deb Mitchell from the Commercial Hotel in Werribee, in Melbourne's outer-west, says the pub is flooded. "The drains overflowed, they just couldn't cope with the amount of water and all the water flooded right in through our sports bar area, flooded all the carpet and also in our kitchen the bistro had not long opened but we had to close because it was raining in our bistro," she said. SES spokesman Lachlan Quick says the situation is set to worsen. "Certainly across Mildura and other parts of north-western victoria we've had significant flash flooding due to these thunderstorms," he said. "We expect that situation to worsen before it improves. There will be significant rainfall occurring from midnight tonight and that will got through till midnight tomorrow night.

"So we are urging people in those areas to be alert to their conditions." The SES is urging people to stay off the roads. "There's been a significant number of people needing to be rescued from cars trapped in floodwaters," Mr Quick said. "We are urging people not to drive, ride or walk in floodwaters. It is one of the most dangerous things you can do and the main cause of injury and death when flooding occurs." The storms have blacked out homes in central, western and northern Victoria and crews are trying to restore the supply to 25,000 homes. The flash flooding has also caused road closures around the state. In Melbourne, VicRoads' Dean Zabriesach says the Monash Freeway has been cut at Toorak. "We've got systems on the freeway to deal with excess rain. We've got pumping systems, but when it reaches this sort of level, even those systems can't cope with them," he said. "So temporarily it is closed, hopefully it will open fairly shortly." The Calder Highway, south of Mildura, has also been flooded. Flash flooding warnings have been issued for all Victorian districts except East Gippsland, and flood watches are current for the greater Melbourne catchments, north-east Victoria, west and south Gippsland and the Goulburn and Broken basins.

Meanwhile, people living in parts of Halls Gap in the state's west have been advised to leave their homes. The SES says there is a risk of landslips and flash flooding and people should move to safety as soon as possible. SES spokesman Tim Wiebusch says parts of Halls Gap flooded last month could be inundated again. "There is a risk with this heavy rainfall, if it is to come off to the levels predicted, that we will see flash flooding back through that area again," he said. "[We will also see] the increased risk of land slippage due to the impacts that have already been seen through the Grampians from the earlier event in January." Northern Grampians Shire Mayor Ray Hewitt says the region was hard hit by January's floods. "We certainly haven't finished the clean-up or the reconstruction of our infrastructure in terms of roads and culverts," he said. "So the clean-up may be halfway through but there's a lot of that to do and there's also a lot of infrastructure that we haven't even got to. "We've assessed them and we know they need to be done, but our works crews are just flat out trying to get essential roads and services open."

Mr Hewitt says landslips are a concern this weekend. "We're being possibly a little bit cautious, but safety is the issue and if we get large rain events this next couple of days, it could cause some more instability in those landslip areas," he said. Mavis Fitzgerald, who works in a Halls Gap shop, says the situation is frustrating. "I have just now started lifting things up off floor level and I'm not too sure what else to do," she said. "It's all a maybe. Last time that we had the rains through it was a definite. This is only a maybe so I'm a bit unsure how we'll go." Areas of the state's north are also facing more floods, with the threat of severe thunderstorms over the next 48 hours. Businesses at Rutherglen and Corowa have already been hit by flash flooding and incident control centres have been established at Bendigo and Wangaratta. Mildura local Pat Hunt says the continuing wet weather is ruining crops. "It's been like this for a while, but we've had drought for the last 10 years and now we seem to be getting rain like this every couple of days, so it's not good for grapes, it's not good for anybody," he said.

Wheat and maze in a vast tract of land were also ruined in Sadar, Baliadangi and Haripur upazilas during calamities on Wednesday afternoon. Around six-inch high hails covered almost 5,000 hectares of the wheat and maze lands in Baliadanga, upazila chairman Probir Kumar Roy and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Moniruzzaman said after visiting the affected areas. As many as 70 farmers, who were working in the fields, were injured, they said. Haripur UNO Harun-or-Rashid said wheat in over 70 percent of the lands in the upazila was levelled in the seasonal storm that also injured some 30 farmers. About 70 houses were damaged in Dhantola and Paria unions. District crop production expert Abdul Majid said the extend of damage was under assessment.

In the south-east, home to the country's vital pepper and vanilla crops, most areas are flooded after the heavy rains. Floods are also threatening Farafangana further south.
